Competition between Inmarsat and mobile VSAT solutions has become even more intense over the last year as the recession has caused potential customers to become more cautious about new expenditures. Nevertheless there is a strong underlying demand for new data services in the offshore market for both business connectivity and crew welfare. Providers must now justify required investments in new equipment in terms of future savings, whether through reduced data communications costs or increased efficiencies that can offer an immediate ROI. How well are both Inmarsat and the leading maritime VSAT providers responding to this challenge? Is consolidation in the fragmented maritime VSAT market necessary? How are new competitors such as KVH and Iridium faring in their efforts to establish a foothold in the broadband data market? The key players will discuss all these new developments in maritime broadband connectivity for the offshore industry.
