Telemedicine has been a part of the offshore oil market for many years. The initial telemedicine technology involved little more than a phone call to the onshore doctor or medic. But telemedicine technology in 2009 is far beyond that. New telemedicine includes advanced diagnostic equipment, utilizing videoscopes and videoconferencing so that doctors and medics can see symptoms real time and obtain medical data and test results instantly. This panel will examine the next generation of telemedicine and how it affects the communications infrastructure on land and offshore.
